I wanna have a little chat about my homegirl to your left. She caught my attention a couple weekends ago when I was at Disneyland, in line for the treacherous "Finding Nemo" ride.
Here is what you don't see in this photo: the shirt is clinging to her every fold and crease. In the front, the shirt was too short and her bare belly was hanging out over the waist of her jeans.
The phenomenon of what I call "Broken Mirror Syndrome" perplexes me. I know we all have our different tastes and opinions (see the leggings post for proof of this) but I have a hard time believing anyone with sense would look at themselves in such an outfit and think "this is presentable for a public outing."
I know I bitch about my mother a lot on this page so let me say something nice about her. She always, ALWAYS stopped me from leaving the house if I was dressed in something inappropriate. Oh sure, I didn't always like it at the time (I swear those short shorts were fashionable in 1993) but now I am fairly confident that as a result of her tutelage, I know what is flattering on me, what is too tight, what is not right... My mom did not necessarily shape my fashion sense but she taught me to take some pride in my appearance and have some friggin' self respect.
And hey, if you DO like how you look with your belly hanging out or your back fat puckering out of your tube top, more power to you. If that is in fact the case, I applaud your overt self-confidence and envy you in a way. Seriously.
