Sunshine and Tears of Happiness

This photo from Val's blog made me warm and happy:

(And not just because I REALLY want wellies...!)

My grandmother used to sing that song to me, "You Are my Sunshine." It's not really a happy song if you know all the words but try telling that to a little girl who doesn't love anyone as much as her grandmother.

My grandmother was love and warmth and hugs and reading stories to me and all of my stuffed animals, since I was convinced they could all listen.

This photo brought back years of memories in a flood.

Had a marvelous, fabulous weekend in Palm Springs. Apparently I AM capable of relaxing... I just need desert surroundings, good food, good friends... 3 pairs of sunglasses for $20, and several 80s movies.

SWIMSUIT SEASON.

Dear lord, is it only me or do these things get tinier and tinier every year? (Or maybe I am just expanding more and more every year.)

Well anyway, I wanted to introduce you all to a great website, Swimsuits For All -- swimsuits sizes up to 24. Pretty great, right? And not a hideous looking grandma-suit among them. I mean, they're not all winners but are they ever? And what I really love is that they also carry specialty sizes for women who have undergone a mastectomy. That's a pretty cool thing to offer. 

Also, FYI, the website offers detailed images, sizing charts, fit and swimsuit care information. "Swimsuit specialists" are available live to personally assist in the search to find the perfect fitting swimsuit for a specific body type. That's sorta cool -- Nordstrom online offers the same kind of service and I've taken advantage a couple times. It's rather nice. 

Anyway, before this starts to sound like a dreadful commercial, I'll post my pictures and get out of your hair.

Good news if you love Nordstrom AND Facebook

I love companies that take advantage of social media to handle customer service and to build out their brand.

So not only was I enlightened to find out Nordstrom has a Facebook group and Twitter account, but I was THRILLED that their Encore department (plus sizes) has a brand new, dedicated Facebook page.

And from the looks of it - just FYI - they address comments, complaints and suggestions very quickly.

Kudos to you, Nordies.

Full-Figured Fashion Week

Will 2010 be the Year of the Plump? It's looking that way. Full-Figured Fashion Week, which began last year in New York, has just announced it will return this coming June. A runway show is the centerpiece of the event, which is otherwise padded with panel discussions and a tour of shops with clothing for realistically sized women. "2009 was a big year for plus-size fashion," says Gwen Devoe of FFFW. "Stores like Forever 21 and Target launched new, hip plus size lines. But we're still not there. Plus-size fashion is still not being taken seriously enough by the industry." She added that big women spend $25 billion a year on clothing--leading to the age-old question of why more designers don't make clothing in large sizes. Fashion often takes up the plus-size cause only to drop it like a, well, lead balloon. V magazine featured plus-size model Crystal Renn in a January fashion spread, but it seems more like a token than a harbinger of the future. The current issue of French Elle is also highlighting big women--yet the French have always had a more open mind about beauty.
