It doesn't matter how good OR bad my week was because I got this e-mail from my mother (edited a little because I wanted to keep some of it to myself): 

Don't ever doubt your worth, you are... beautiful, intelligent, extremely talented... Don't ever think that all you have... is just a stroke of luck. It's because of how people perceive you inside and out...

Better to be an Idiot or a Dummy?

Yes, it's true. I am the proud owner of both the Idiots and Dummies social media manuals. 

My first Dummies guide was the "Sex for Dummies" which I purchased as a joke, intending to keep it out on the coffee table for display and conversation. After some teens were in my home and saw the book, I realized it might be smarter to hide it away. 

But I digress.

Having both of these in my posession made me curious - which is the superior tool (pun intended)? 

Off the cuff, I can't tell you which I'd rather be. Idiot? Dummy? Is one adjective a little less mean than the other? All joking aside, after going through them both, I settled on IDIOT. Here's why: The Idiot's Guide breaks everything down a little more basically. It's also very practical-minded. Whereas with the Dummies book, I feel like it's got a nice sense of humor but a little more "stereo instruction"-ish. Also, could totally do without all the product placement in the Dummies book. Intentional or not, I should not feel the desire to buy TIDE after I read it -- it's a little unsettling. The Idiots folks seem to make an effort against such a thing. 

So... I guess.... I'm an idiot, but not a dummy? You tell me. LOL.

No More Plastic Hangers? (Where is all the inventory, @Nordstrom?)

Where is all the inventory, Nordstrom?

I took these photos not so long ago. Because I was walking through the Encore department at Nordstrom and it felt like the merch. was so spread out, as if to compensate for a lack of inventory. What's more, there was not a salesperson to be seen.

It was totally unappealing. I left.

At Bloomingdales these days, their plus dept. is positively overflowing with stock. And their customer service has improved. Leaving me to only shopping at Nordstrom online and Bloomies in person.

How much online shopping are you doing these days?

It's interesting now. With all the websites reducing or even eliminating their S&H fees, and charging little to nothing for return shipping, there's really no reason NOT to shop online now. I tend to order more than I want or need, knowing I will probably send a lot of it back. This way, I can even try on in the comfort of my own home. It's not as instantly gratifying as coming home with shopping bags, but it's satisfying in the sense that I'm able to really, truly comparison shop and get the best deals. 

Anyone shopping at Simply Be? I'm obsessed with them but have hesitated to buy anything as I think their shipping from the UK. Not willing to wait THAT long for an order or a credit. 

And now, fast approaching, is WEDDING SEASON. Ugh. Dressed and girlishness are never my thing... The rest of my summer may not be as lovely as the first half!

 

Viva La French Fries!

You all may not know me well enough yet, but if anyone ever asks me what my favorite food is, I usually answer that it is either sushi or FRENCH FRIES.

So I could not resist posting this recipe that was sent to me. HEALTHY FRIES!!! Love it. Plan to make them this weekend during Los Angeles' now infamous "CARMAGEDDON."

Pritikin Longevity Center & Spa’s Roasted Potato Wedges (Serves 8)

1 pound russet potatoes, washed and thinly sliced into wedges

¼ cup red wine vinegar

¼ cup water

1 teaspoon granulated onion

1 teaspoon chopped garlic

Procedure

1.   Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.

2.   Soak potato wedges in vinegar and water for about 30 minutes.

3.   On a nonstick baking sheet, spread out wedges. Sprinkle with onion and garlic.

4.   Bake in oven for about 20 minutes, turning once.  Remove from oven when wedges are crispy on both sides. 

Nutrition Information (per serving):

45 calories, 0g total fat, 0g saturated fat, 0mg cholesterol, 1g protein, 1g fiber, 0mg sodium.

 

I mean, can you beat that? I bet they're tasty, too. I love fries with vinegar!

Crap. Now I'm hungry!

Lovely Lovely Lovely

You might say I was inspired by my baby-wanting-not-boyfriend...

I don't know what I was thinking. You see, I joined a couple dating websites. 

If anything, it should make this blog more interesting, so stay tuned. 

 

I had the loveliest day today. I woke up early (believe me, very few of my lovely days beging with waking up early) and got my hair did. No more grays for six weeks or so (at only 32 - fucking annoyance of my life).  Ran a few errands, treated myself to a Starbucks, read some magazines and started a new book, had a delicious sushi dinner and now have sat down to watch some SciFi. 

Oh, Torchwood, I love you. Not quite the quirky BBC version I knew, but you'll do.

ANYWAY, where was I?

Oh yes - lovely.

My new job is also lovely. I mean, I'm loving it. It's a completely foreign feeling to me -- to get up in the morning without a cloud of dread hanging over me. To sleep easier at night, knowing the following day won't be a giant emotional suckfest.  In fact, it's possible my biggest problem now is a nagging anticipation that the other shoe will drop... I've learned that I am incapable of accepting goodness in my life. 

(It struck me just now that my decision to date again is slightly ironic in that case.)

 

How often to I blog just because? I just wanted to check in. Tell you that I am well (quite well!) and that I am, for the first time in recent memory, enjoying myself.
