I must confess, I have a new addiction. Starbucks free WiFi.
I'm not kidding! Have you done this? I am now one of the many wanna-be hipsters who totes their laptop to Starbucks to look hard-working a deep in thought whilst sipping on whatever overpriced coffee I was craving that hour.
In my defense, what I accomplish in an hour sitting at Starbucks is miraculous. It would take me three times as much time sitting on my couch, where my kitchen and mu Tivo are too close for comfort.
Perhaps you've noticed an increase in my blog output this week? Starbucks.
I am a self-proclaimed nerd who loves school and learning. I love taking classes. I watch TV with my laptop so I can look up anything that intrigues me. And I think sitting here, among the high school and college kids (and adult latent hipsters), takes me back to those kinds of environments. It motivates me to be productive and take on new projects. To finish old ones.
And as I've been unemployed since early December, it's been a new distraction. It's been a way to get out of the house and rejoin the living.
The BEST news is, I am heading back to work in a couple weeks. Yes! That's right, I've found a new job and I could not be MORE EXCITED about it. Talk about being in the right place at the right time... I guess I feel the same way now that I did when I got laid off last January. Had I not been let go, I would not be available for this... Which brings me right back to one of my personal mantras: "Everything always happens for a reason."
Like Starbucks free WiFi.
(See how I made that come full-circle? I am so clever.)
